Mindful Moments Challenge

Although the cooler weather and cozy aromas of fall urge us to slow down, the pace of our lives seems to pick up during the last quarter of the year. The shopping, cooking, gathering, and eating of the holiday season can easily leave us feeling overwhelmed and out of balance, tired and unhappy. Mindfulness can be an effective antidote to this kind of rat-race, which unfortunately, describes modern life all year round.

Described as the practice of maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, mindfulness is much more than simply acknowledging or labeling what our eyes perceive. Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, we let go of what could have been (our past) and what should be (our future.) Without the burden of needing things to be a certain way, we allow ourselves to be as we are – fully, completely, and unapologetically. We start tuning in to the beauty right in front of us and the beauty within us, which leads to the kind of self-love that can truly heal us.

On November 1, we invite you to join our Mindful Moments Challenge designed to help you pause, breathe, and tune in. Through daily movement, meditation, and mindfulness, we hope you will savor this joyful season instead of simply survive it, and step into the new year with ease. How’s this going to work?

For 21 days, we will challenge you to practice yoga (or any type of movement that feels nurturing to your body), meditate, and practice mindfulness. Yes, every. single. day. Don’t freak out – these activities don’t have to be longer than 5-10 minutes. The point is to develop the habit of stopping to breathe during the day, to collect your thoughts, and connect to your heart, even if just for a moment. In addition, you must attend one of three deliciously restorative Yoga Nidra sessions scheduled on Friday November 2, 9, and 16 from 7-8pm.

Ok, so how do you join the challenge?

We’re keeping it real simple so no need to “register” or “sign up” to participate, you just do it!

Below you will find a list of resources for each category within the challenge. We know it’s not always possible to get to the studio every day, but there are lots of apps and tools to help you get your daily dose of movement, meditation, and mindfulness.

Movement

Our physical bodies are often a reflection of our more subtle emotional and spiritual well-being. Moving in a mindful and nurturing manner can help us release negative emotions, reenergize our minds, and connect with our hearts in meaningful ways. If you can’t make it to Yogaleena and can’t quite get yourself to practice on your own, here are a few of our favorite online yoga classes to try:

We highly recommend using the FREE app INSIGHT TIMER for our daily meditation practice. There are many choices of how you can use this app. You can set a timer and meditate to different sounds. You can select different guided meditations. It’s really easy and simple. Play around and find what works for you. During the Mindful Moments Challenge we are recommending 5 minutes of daily meditation practice.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is maintaining a moment by moment awareness or focus on what you are doing, feeling, seeing, and sensing. It’s simple, but not easy, as we’ve been wired to “multi-task” our way though life! Here are a few ideas on how to incorporate mindfulness into your day:

Take a walk in nature 

Eat a mindful meal (not at your desk)

Listen to music (without doing anything else)

Create a piece of art

Pay attention to your breath

Take a bath with essential oils

Journal for 10 min

Give any one single thing your full attention (we’re bringing single-tasking back!)

Cool, so what’s Yoga Nidra again?

Often referred to as “yogic-sleep”, Yoga Nidra is a specific type of guided meditation that’s intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Using a combination of intention, breath, and visualization, this practice takes a person beneath the waking mind into the subconscious realms where healing and transformation can happen.

Yoga Nidra is accessible to everyone! It is practiced laying down in savasana, often supported with props for maximum comfort. Although the benefits of Yoga Nidra are countless, the most commonly reported include the following:

Reduced stress and anxiety

Reduced insomnia and better sleep

Reduced chronic pain

Enhanced memory

Increased clarity and sense of purpose

Relief from psychological trauma

Throughout the Mindful Moments Challenge, a Yoga Nidra practice will be offered weekly, with a slightly different focus during each session. Come experience true rest and relaxation with Lindsay on Friday, November 2, 9, and/or, 16.

  1. Can I participate for free if I am on the 30 Days for $30 Deal? No, this deal is great for trying out the studio but it is not considered a monthly membership. However, you can still participate in the challenge and pay for one of the Yoga Nidra sessions at regular price ($20.)
  2. I purchased the $59 MMC Pass and the system is asking me to pay for Yoga Nidra when I try to register, why isn’t it working? Your pass is set to activate on November 1 so you must wait until then to book any of the Yoga Nidra sessions that are included in the $59.
